To honour his 100th birthday Harold Irving is donating $25,000 to the Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation.
Harold was born on November 20th of 1920 and served in World War II as an electrician working on military planes.
In June 1944, he followed the D-day invasion forces as they moved through France, Holland, Belgium and Germany, making sure that Spitfires and other planes could be kept in the air.
Over the past 10 years, Harold has spent several weeks in the inpatient Rehabilitation Unit of the Pembroke Regional Hospital – once after a serious illness; again after a knee replacement (at age 94); and finally after a hip replacement (at age 98).
Harold says staff never treated him like he was old and because of the exceptional care he received, he decided to give back to the Pembroke Regional Hospital.
Earlier this year Harold also raised $6,000 for Bonnechere Manor in Renfrew as part of the Strides for Smiles campaign.
