The first patients have been able to use the new x-ray equipment at the Renfrew Victoria Hospital (RVH) that was purchased with funds raised through the Catch the Ace lottery.
Staff have been trained and were able to use the newly renovated suite last week (Wednesday, August 26th).
Over 17,000 exams are conducted each year in the RVH x-ray department.
The equipment staff used previously was 11.5-years-old.
Manager, Medical Imaging, Lisa Wherry, compares the old equipment to using a 10-year-old cell phone. Wherry adds the new software enhances their ability to see details in the images.
Director of the RVH Emergency Department Doctor Kristian Davis says having access to up-to-date x-ray equipment means faster, better-quality images will be available to help doctors in the Emergency Department make clinical diagnosis and inform the appropriate treatments for better patient outcomes.
Next up, the Medical Imaging department has started the process to upgrade to a new portable x-ray unit, also funded by Catch the Ace proceeds.
The Catch the Ace lottery in support of RVH handed out more than $800,000 to weekly winners, $1.6 million to the eventual jackpot winner, and raised just over $2.5 million for Renfrew Victoria Hospital.
