The Algonquins of Pikwakanagan Chief, Wendy Jocko, has issued a statement regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. She says council has declared a state of emergency to protect the vulnerable people in the community.
The Chief says as a result of the state of emergency, all businesses in Pikwakanagan have been closed to reduce the amount of local traffic and possible community transmission.
Jocko thanks all the businesses, organizations, families and individuals who have acknowledged and respected the severity of the threat this virus presents. Residents are reminded there’s resources and services available if you’re unable to leave your home OR you cannot afford to buy food.
Those who live in Pikwakanagan and need food or supplies are asked to call (613) 625-2259.
The Emergency Response Control Group is working to provide updates and coordinate resources to meet the needs of the community. Jocko says kindness, gratitude and generosity of spirit are also essential in our fight to overcome COVID-19.
