Horton Township is considering a new recreation user agreement with the town of Renfrew. A decision has not yet been formally made, and details need to be finalized but the matter is expected to be addressed during budget talks later this month. Should the two municipalities agree and sign on the dotted line, Horton residents will have full use of recreation programs at the same cost as Renfrew residents. Currently there is an out of town user fee for anyone signing up for programs and sports who is not a resident of Renfrew or who is not included in an existing user agreement. As part of the potential agreement, Horton will pay $75 per user for 2019, at a cost of about $29 000. The pitched document would see costs increase year over year for a contract of five years, up to $100 per resident by 2023 for an estimated total of $39 000. The matter will return to the table for a vote after budget deliberations are completed.
