Ontario’s English Catholic Teachers (OECTA) will be in a legal strike position as of December 21st.
This comes after the release of a no-board report with respect to OECTA’s negotiations with the Province and Catholic School Board trustees.
Tracey Pecarski, Renfrew County OECTA representative, says the clock is now ticking down toward a looming deadline for strike action.
While negotiations between the parties are continuing, the move is seen as an effort to pressure meaningful talks on a variety of outstanding issues including cutbacks and increases in class size.
The Province has offered a one percent increase to all of the teacher groups, and claims that educators want more than that.
Pecarski says her association doesn’t want to fall behind the rate of inflation.
OECTA represents the 45,000 teachers in Ontario’s publicly funded English Catholic schools, from Kindergarten to Grade 12.
