Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MP Cheryl Gallant has been appointed the critic for Veterans Affairs and Economic Development in Northern Ontario. Gallant says she’s excited to take on the new role in the Shadow Cabinet. She adds in this role she will shadow the minister on these files and hold them accountable. Gallant says Renfrew County and Northern Ontario have many similarities and she will also be able to continue her work supporting veterans.
With Parliament set to reconvene tomorrow (Thursday, December 5th), Gallant says she hopes the Liberals don’t continue to break promises and fudge the numbers. She adds there has been a decrease in National Defense spending from the promised 1.4% down to less than one percent. Gallant says this has a direct result on the military training exercises in Petawawa.
The local Member of Parliament says in the past, she’s been assigned shadow cabinet positions for Canadian Heritage, Emergency Preparedness and Infrastructure and she’s also followed the Northern Ontario Economic Development file.
