The Ontario Provincial Police are warning consumers to be cautious while shopping online coming into this holiday season. Last year, 1179 online shoppers in Ontario lost a combined 1.2 million dollars according to the Canadian anti fraud centre. That number accounted for nearly half that lost in online shopping fraud Canada-wide. An estimated $862, 000 has been lost so far this year due to fraud, and that number is expected to rise with the upcoming holiday season. Consumers can look to the OPP and getcybersafe.gc.ca for tips to avoid being defrauded online.
