A local resident wants Bonnechere Valley council to change the name of the 3rd waterfall at the Fourth Chute Falls. Douglas resident Kathy Kilby wrote a letter to councillors and the mayor at the end of September, objecting to the newly proposed name of the falls. She had heard that the landmark is being named Baker Falls after a non-resident of the area. Kilby says if the waterfall is going to be named anything other than the Fourth Chute Falls it should be named the Menard Falls. She goes on to say the Menards first settled in the Fourth Chute area in 1849 and had two family members killed during the first World War. Kilby says the Menards were one of the founding families of Gratton Township and this would be a great way to honour them. Bonnechere Valley council said the deadline for name submissions was August 30th, but they forwarded off the request to the provincial geographic names specialist. Fourth Chute Falls is located next to Bonnechere Caves outside of Eganville.
