An investigation is underway after a Canadian soldier was beaten and left unconscious on a training mission overseas. The National Post reports the beating took place off hours. The Petawawa soldier was sent to a local hospital before being transferred back to Canada. The soldier from the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment based out of Petawawa has since returned to active duty. Military police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault, but will not be able to comment until the investigation is completed. The soldiers were in Germany when the beating took place, assisting Canadian troops operating in Bulgaria as a part of Exercise Swift Response. Bombardier Patrick Labrie, a member of the 2nd Regiment of the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, was killed the day before on the same mission. Sources say the alleged attack is not related.
