TOWNSHIP REFUSES REQUEST TO MAINTAIN ROAD YEAR ROUND
7/17/2017 8:49:40 AM
Citing safety concerns, Greater Madawaska Council is denying a request to maintain the length of Kennelly Mountain Road year-ound. The road, which is nearly eight kilometres long, is maintained from the Ferguson Lake Rd intersection to Mulvihill Farm Road, as well as a portion from Centennial Lake Road inwards. There's a three km stretch in the middle that is not. Some members of council, as well as staff, worry that by creating a thru-road year round they would see an increase of traffic on a narrow road and more risk for drivers. Councillor Glen MacPherson feels the municipality could be held responsible if someone were to get hurt. Should council decide to provide maintenance for the entire road year round in the future, they would need to budget money to widen the road, add additional granulars and work on drainage improvements.
