Yet another e-mail scam is targeting the wallets of residents all across the Ottawa Valley. A new phishing e-mail is making headlines in many inboxes these days. Locally, the e-mail that has popped up has the subject, "Your Speed Fine Notification". Police say that the e-mail may request or direct the recipient to visit a certain website or click on a link to update or provide personal or financial information and passwords. Or, in some cases the victim is directed to make a payment for false reasons and when the victim submits their payment details, the criminals then steal and use the victim's personal information. You are being reminded to not reply to any of the e-mails, carefully check the address and don't fall for quick pressure tactics such as a short deadline for payment.
