219 kilometers of the Ottawa Valley Recreation Trail will soon be available for use for horses, bicycles, snowmobiles and much more. County Council moved forward, as was expected, with passing a motion allowing the Algonquin Trail portion of the OVRT to be designated as a multi-purpose trail. The Ontario Trails Council will create a management plan for the trial which will be completed before work is to be done on the trail. The completion date for the plan is set for August 31. The OVRT stretches from Smiths Falls to Mattawa and passes through 10 municipalities in Renfrew County.
