LICENSING FEES DRIVE FOOD VENDORS AWAY FROM STAMPEDE

A last minute hail mary for the Arnprior Stampede. Faced with the prospect of having no food for sale on site, the town has agreed to waive its vendor fees, to make it more attractive for food vendors to operate at next weekend's event. Stampede Co-organizer Brad Runtz went to Monday night's council meeting to plead their case - noting that every vendor had backed out, causing the Stampede to lose a huge revenue stream. He was relieved to leave the meeting with the break he needed from the town.

Council agreed to waive the fees for the Stampede and the Fair this year, and those $50 a day fees could get a second look as some on council felt they were quite steep compared to fees for other events such as the farmer's market. Runtz says the vendors also have to pay registration fees to the Ag Society, combined with the usual overhead so the extra fee was enough to drive them away. The Arnprior Stampede runs next Saturday and Sunday at the fairgrounds.
