MORE SUPPORT PLEDGED FOR MILITARY FAMILIES AT GARRISON PETAWAWA 6/13/2017 4:46:38 PM
Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs and the Associate Minister of National Defence, Sherry Romanado was at the Petawawa Military Family Resouce Centre today (June 13) to talk about Canada's new defence policy. The new policy is "Strong, Engaged, Secure", which means strong at home, secure in North America and engaged in the world. Romanado held a session with military families to hear their concerns and frustrations and to answer questions they had. She says she was touched that they shared such personal stories with her and that it was a powerful way to get the information.
The new support for military families includes improved access to psychological services, teams being put in at Wings and Bases across Canada in partnership with military family resource centres to prevent and handle gender-based violence and an additional $6 million per year going towards military Family Support Programs.
